IN MEMORY OF BRIAN MULLIGAN

The Canadian Drag Racing Hall of Fame is saddened to announce the passing of Brian Mulligan on Wednesday March 1st, 2023, at 80 years of age, in Cornwall, Ontario. Known as the “Bilingual Voice of Racing,” Brian Mulligan was an internationally acclaimed motorsports promotor, announcer, marketing, and public relations specialist.

Over the years, Mulligan was bestowed many honours, including the 2010 Leonard J. Sammons Jr. Memorial Award, induction into the Canadian Drag Racing Hall of Fame, and induction into the Northeast Modified Hall of Fame. He began announcing at Cedar Dragway in Quebec in 1966, soon to become the regular announcer at Sanair, where he announced the 1971 NHRA Molson Grand National. Mulligan went on to announce major events for NHRA, including Pomona, California, Englishtown, New Jersey, Columbus, Ohio, and Gainesville, Florida. He was the official announcer at Cornwall Motor Speedway for many years, as well as the Super Dirt Car Series, a sanctioning body of dirt track races in the USA. Mulligan’s love for motorsport did not end in drag racing; he was also the official announcer of the Kawartha Cup, a professional CSRA snowcross racing league. Brian Mulligan has announced for over 100 promoters across both the U.S. and Canada.

He leaves behind a loving family: his wife, Huguette, his sons, Patrick and Daniel, and his grandchildren, Axelle, Romain, and Laurier, as well as his brother, Richard, his sisters-in-law Brigitte and Louise, his brother-in-law Luc, and his many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Frank and Dorothy Mulligan.

Brian Mulligan was a man with a big heart. When he was not diving into the world of motorsports, he spent much of his time volunteering, fundraising, and helping others. His passion, dedication and bright personality will forever hold a place in history. To this day, Mulligan’s family continues to carry on his legacy; his eldest son, Patrick, owns a race team while his youngest son, Danny, remains involved on the track as a flagman. The Canadian Drag Racing Hall of Fame is proud to commemorate Brian Mulligan, a talented and charismatic announcer whose memory will always be cherished among his fellow inductees.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be greatly appreciated by the family.
