The NHRA – John Scotti Canadian Championship Series kicked off in spectacular fashion at Toronto Motorsports Park, with over 160 racers vying for cash, Wallys, and championship series points. Despite a rain cancellation on Friday that scrubbed time trials and qualifying, the action on May 18th and 19th was nothing short of exhilarating.

Race Day 1 Recap:

The Top Dragster/Top Sportsman Combo 1/8 mile saw Mike Wagg from Troy, ON, clinch victory in his ’37 Chevy with a blistering ET of 4.016 seconds at 179.21 mph. David Anthony from Mount Pearl, NL, was the runner-up in his dragster, clocking in at 4.594 seconds and 150.27 mph.

In the Select Printing-Stock/Super Stock category, Louis Gill from Quebec City, QC, took the win in his ’92 Cavalier with a 9.399 ET at 139.61 mph, as Chris Lozon from Chatham, ON, fouled out with a red light.

Benoit Martin from Montreal, QC, won the Epic Racewear-Super Comp 8.90 index in his ’00 Dragster with an 8.909 ET at 162.33 mph, defeating Brooklyn Noakes from Ilderton, ON, who also fouled out.

The Epic Racewear-Super Gas 9.90 index was won by Matt Constable from Port Dover, ON, in his ’86 Camaro, achieving a 9.975 ET at 163.87 mph. Joe Ferrari from Uxbridge, ON, was the runner-up after a red light foul.

Drew Buchner from Aylmer, ON, secured the Epic Racewear-Super Street 10.90 Index win in his ’85 Camaro with a 10.987 ET at 131.94 mph. Kevin Orr from Mono, ON, was the runner-up with a breakout time.

Brandon Satchell from London, ON, triumphed in Dingy’s Sportsman Motorcycle on his ’78 Suzuki with a 9.084 ET at 133.67 mph, while Darrin Johnston from Cayuga, ON, took second with a breakout.

In the Freedom Docks – Junior Dragster, Johanna Thompson from Port Dover, ON, won with a 9.22 ET at 70.35 mph, ahead of Conner Ridler from London, ON, who had a 7.905 ET at 81.3 mph.

Race Day 2 Recap:

Day two continued the excitement. Roch Beaudoin from Corbeil, ON, won the Top Dragster/Top Sportsman Combo 1/8 mile in his ’09 GTO with a 4.58 ET at 153.46 mph, narrowly defeating David Anthony.

Bruce Riley from Lake Echo, NS, took the Select Printing-Stock/Super Stock win in his ’71 Chevelle with a 9.327 ET at 140.2 mph, with DJ Raiser from Lancaster, NY, as runner-up.

Brooklyn Noakes bounced back to win the Epic Racewear-Super Comp 8.90 index in her ’01 Dragster with an 8.867 ET at 173.18 mph, beating Blake Sutton from Burlington, ON.

Matt Constable continued his winning streak in the Epic Racewear-Super Gas 9.90 index with a 9.955 ET at 149.04 mph, while Josh Williams from Aurora, NY, was the runner-up.

Steve McCarrick from Phelps, NY, won the Epic Racewear-Super Street 10.90 Index in his ’56 Chevy with a 10.905 ET at 128.51 mph, defeating Jamie Champ from Georgetown, ON.

Brandon Satchell repeated his success in Dingy’s Sportsman Motorcycle on his ’78 Suzuki with a 9.872 ET at 90.87 mph, while Kyle Vanbeek from Aeonthil, ON, was the runner-up.

In the Freedom Docks – Junior Dragster 1/8 mile, Jacob Ferstl from Burlington, ON, won with an 8.964 ET at 72.88 mph, ahead of Conner Ridler.

Spectators were also thrilled by a nostalgic display of classic muscle cars and a jaw-dropping performance by CDRHF hall of famer Neil Armstrong in his Jet Dragster Northern Warrior, clocking a 5.60-second run at 280 mph.

As the first event of the NHRA – John Scotti Canadian Championship Series concludes, racers and fans alike eagerly anticipate the next rounds at Napierville Dragway on July 19th – 21st, 2024.
