Hall of Famer, Rob Flynn, Continues His Winning Ways
Mike Salinas, veteran team owner and Top Fuel driver/team owner, welcomed Rob Flynn as the crew chief of Scrappers Racing for the 2022 NHRA Camping World Series season. The team has made great strides in terms of performance and spirit since the arrival of Rob Flynn. Flynn was inducted into the Canadian Drag Racing Hall of Fame in 2017. Now, he is bringing his enthusiasm and expertise to the Scrappers Racing Team.
It was a happy day in drag racing history for the Scrappers Racing Team. The Scrappers took their first win of the 2023 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series season opener at the 54th annual Amalie Motor Oil Gatornationals. This marks the eighth career Top Fuel win for Mike Salinas. “I get a little emotional because we’ve worked so hard to get here,” He states, moments before receiving his trophy. “We’ve got a great team and it’s just amazing. It’s surreal. I go home and I watch this stuff on TV and it’s hard to believe it’s me doing it.”
Mike Salinas outpaced the No.9 qualifier, Justin Ashley, with a run of 3.669 at 334.82. In the quarterfinals, he took on 2022 NHRA Top Fuel Champion Brittany Force, where he raced towards another win. He faced Leah Pruett in the semifinals, and advanced to the final round, where he would come up against 4-time NHRA World Champion, Steve Torrence. The Scrappers dragster surged ahead, snatching the lead, and earning the team their first Wally of the season. The winning E.T. and M.P.H. for the final race were 3.700 seconds, 330.31 mph def. by Mike Salinas, and 3,754 seconds, 333.82 mph by Steve Torrence.
Rob Flynn has continued his winnings ways into 2023. The Canadian Drag Racing Hall of Fame is excited to see what other victories await our inductee!
