Gille Labonté

About

Gilles Labonté’s passion for drag racing began in 1967 with his meeting of famed engine builder Jean Lippé. Starting in 1970, he worked in development and publicity for Quebec’s Speed’n Sport, connecting with notable racers. In 1972, Gilles became the official announcer at Pont Rouge Drag Strip, a role he held for over 15 years, expanding to other Quebec tracks and events. From 1973 to 1979, he provided French-language commentary for the NHRA Grand National at Sanair. With a nearly 50-year career covering tracks across Quebec, Gilles’s dedication made him a beloved figure in Canadian drag racing, establishing his candidacy for the Canadian Drag Racing Hall of Fame.
