Gérard Milette — Saint-Étienne-des-Grès, Québec

Professional racer and car designer, crowned champion at the NHRA nationals in the Top Sportsman category in 2016

About

Born in Saint-Étienne-des-Grès, in Mauricie, Gérard Milette was interested from a young age in everything related to automobiles and in particular engines.

It was while going to see an event at the defunct Grand National in Sanair, in the early 80s, that his passion for drag racing developed. Gérard Milette took his first steps in drag racing in the ET Bracket class, in the Super Pro category, with a 67 Camaro as his choice of car. He then moved on to the Super Gas category with a Beretta that he built himself.

In 1991 he joined NHRA competitions in the Super Gas category with the number 1393, which he still keeps to this day.

In 2010, with the help of his partner Suzanne-Ghézabelle Poirier who is a welder, he decided to build a new competition car, faster and more efficient, a Corvette 63. It took them three years to complete it. He competed with it in the NHRA Top Sportsman category. In his first outing with the new car, he finished runner-up in the final at Epping. He won a LODRS program at the prestigious and fast Lucas Oil Raceway track in Indianapolis, Division 3 in the Top Sportsman category in 2015 with a reaction time of .004 at the start.

During his thirty years in drag racing, Gerard Milette has won many victories including: a Super Gas victory at Sanair, his home track, a LODRS NHRA Division 1 at Lebanon Valley in 2016, as well as a great victory at the Zmax NHRA Nationals in the Top Sportsman class in 2016. He has also won several awards including the “Best Engineering” award at Maple Grove in 2010 and at Zmax in 2016 (best built car). He finished 2nd at Jeg's All Star in 2016 and in the top 10 several years in a row in NHRA Division 1 in Top Sportsman. He has also been featured on the cover of the prestigious National Dragster magazine as a Feature Flyer.

Today, he continues his passion for drag racing, more passionate than ever, in the company of his partner and racing team manager, Suzanne-Ghézabelle Poirier.
