Alain Tanguay – Charlesbourg, QC

About

Father of the Vagabond I-II-III-IV and V, King of drag racing in Quebec City, Alain Tanguay left his mark on drag racing for some forty years, not only in his hometown, but throughout Quebec and in some American states.

After gaining experience illegally on the streets of Quebec City, Alain turned to the Pont Rouge drag strip, where he made his official debut in 1967 at the wheel of his first Vagabond - a 1954 Dodge. It was a remarkable debut, and the success that followed would stay with him throughout his racing career.

Among his most memorable moments on the track was second place (Runner Up) at the Keystone National in Pennsylvania. Off the track, he had a unique experience, touring the streets of Long Branch in his Vagabond IV, escorted, if you please, by the local police.

Alain put an end to what had been a lifelong passion in 2004 due to health problems. This was his 5th Vagabond, a Dragster that never thrilled him, as his previous Vagabonds had, and which is now driven by his son, Martin.

He made his last eighth of a mile at the wheel of Vagabond IV, a 1991 Trans-Am that fulfilled him in the final stretch of his racing career.

One life, one passion, one great driver.
